Used Intake specs
Setup notes and briefing numbers for Used Intake.
Details to record on arrival
The Used Intake specs page lists the detail needed when a pre-owned machine is being offered for review. Include the make, model, serial details if available, capacity, accessories, faults, and clear notes on the machine's working condition.
List the machine make, model and serial number first, then note swing, bed length, spindle bore or table travel where relevant. For stock coming through Johannesburg, add the machine's present location, whether it is under power, and any damage seen after unloading or storage.
Photograph the full machine before loose parts are moved, then capture the nameplate, controls and wear points. A proper intake sheet should also note chucks, steadies, toolposts, guards, coolant equipment and any manuals that arrived with the unit.
What the intake sheet must capture
Record how the machine actually runs, not just how it looks in the bay. Include spindle noise, feed operation, backlash, lubrication, electrical condition and whether the machine was tested on a job, dry-run, or not powered at all.
Faults should be written plainly, with missing items kept separate from wear or performance issues. If extra notes are being sent through the contact form, say the machine is a used intake and give its serial so the file stays accurate.
- Make, model and serial recorded
- Capacity and tooling listed clearly
- Visible faults noted without guesswork
Checks that matter in South Africa
Machines from inland workshops often carry grinding dust, dry slides and faded electrical labels, while coastal stock can show heavier corrosion on bare surfaces. On used lathes, boring machines and valve grinding equipment, note rust, pitting, cabinet condition and whether wiring has been altered to suit a previous workshop setup.
Power availability affects what can be tested at intake, especially where three-phase supply is limited or disconnected. State the voltage on the plate, whether the motor was turned, and if pumps, feeds, lights or digital readouts were checked during inspection.

Notes for pre-owned machine review
Write down the machine type, known history and reason it is being offered for review. If there is damage, missing tooling or a seized function, mention it on the sheet rather than leaving it for a later call.
The strongest intake record is done while the machine is still accessible and the accessories are laid out beside it. Add transport observations, pallet count, and any separate boxes of parts so nothing is lost between inspection and storage.
